More Than Acupuncture

In addition to providing acupuncture, our licensed practitioners utilize a wide variety of healing modalities available in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Depending on your condition, our practitioners may recommend acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha massage, or an herbal remedy that will help you acheive optimum health and wellness.

Most of the following techniques can be used along with acupuncture to treat almost any ailment, but the most common uses for each modality are briefly stated below.

Gua sha massage opens the pores in the skin and improves circulation and blood flow, promoting healthy skin and helping to detoxify the entire body, including as deep as the internal organs.

Moxibustion has a warming affect, and is most commonly used to improve

circulation (such as in the case of chronic cold hands or feet), improve digestion, and to relieve arthritis and joint pain. For women in particular, moxibustion is used to promote fertility, treat ovarian cysts, and reduce menstrual cramps.

Cupping is highly utilized for back and neck pain, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, headaches, for clearing congestion in the lungs and releiving many respiratory illnesses. Cupping is somewhat of the inverse of massage, in that it pulls the muscles out from the body with slight pressure as opposed to depressing them.

Herbal remedies have perhaps the most broad use of all of the techniques mentioned in this article, because the quality of plant life on this earth is so diverse. Moxibustion, for example, is applied by the burning of the healing herb mug wart, and is not commonly used for conditions of excess heat or "fire" energy. In the herbal realm, however, there are plants that have cooling affects, and others that

have warming affects. Herbal consultations are a great place to start, and we highly recommend you ask your practitioner if there are herbs that can help you with your condition.
